Buddy Walk

Pathways: A conference on housing and rights for the disabled community.

November 17th, 2008

Saturday, November 22 there is a conference at Woodside Bible Church on housing, rights, transition planning, and vocational options for the developmentally disabled. We will have, in my opinion, the top folks in Oakland County regarding housing, financial, and life planning options for young men and women with developmental and mental disabilities in Oakland County. Senior management from MORC, Inc., The Arc of Oakland County, and Community Housing Network will speak on the current topics relating to transitioning our young adults to “independence” in the community.

There will be two morning sessions followed by a Q & A with all presenters and then a provided lunch with special guest speaker Elmer Cerano, the Executive Director of Michigan Protection and Advocacy Services.

The entire conference, including lunch, is free of charge. I know all of the presenters personally and can only tell you that they know their material and will provide you with the information that you need to figure out where to go, what to do, and how to plan for your child or young adult.

If anyone would like to attend, please call email mw@sjcap.net.

October 17th, 2008

So far – we have raised $60,000 And we’re still counting!

Online donations for the Buddy Walk will be accepted until October 31, 2008. Many people feel inspired to donate again after attending. You can go on-line today and help someone reach their fundraising goal, or to top off your team’s total. Go to http://buddywalk.kintera.org/dsgsemi.

All proceeds from the Buddy Walk will be calculated on November 1 and used during the 2009 fiscal year.  Be sure to ask how the DSG can help you or your family through its scholarship fund policy designed to give financial assistance with educational, recreational, or medical bills.  We are proud to provide assistance to individuals with Down syndrome in our community and encourage you to take part.
