Buddy Walk 2010
This year's Buddy Walk will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2010
at the Palace of Auburn HIlls from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
It's time again for the Southeast Michigan Buddy Walk. The event will be held on Saturday, October 9 at the Palace of Auburn Hills. We promise this year's event will be bigger and better than ever with a wide range of activities for every age group.
We encourage you to Start a Team to help continue our mission of creating positive outcomes for individuals with Down syndrome. In addition to the fun you will have working together to increase awareness about Down syndrome, you and your Team can also win exciting prizes which are detailed in this packet.
Our 2009 Buddy Walk was an amazing success! With over 74 Teams, 900 walkers and $80,000 raised, you can be proud to be part of one of the largest walks in Michigan. The funds raised at the Buddy Walk are vital to the continued growth of programs and services at the DSG. Did you know that 95% of DSG programs are funded through the proceeds of the Buddy Walk?
It is DSG's goal to be responsive and accountable to our members. So, please let those who support your Team know that funds raised at this year's Buddy Walk will be used in the following manner:
- Provide scholarships to families for areas such as education, medical and recreational
- Produce and disseminate six editions of "A Little Something Extra" Newsletter to 1,000 recipients
- Produce and disseminate four Editions of DSG's Inclusion Solutions Newsletter which is sent to over 150 recipients
- Support our local Down Syndrome Specialists and school districts by providing resources, trainings and publications
- Provide our local Community Groups with administrative and funding support=
- Provide continued updates to the DSG website
- Provide ongoing trainings and seminars with topics specific to Down syndrome for families, educators and professionals
- Host all Guild events such as: Easter Egg Hunt, Summer Picnic, and Holiday Party
- Expand DSG programming to include a wider age range of ages
- Provide a support breakfast for expectant/new parents and their families
- Launch the Dimes for Down Syndrome and Dress Down for Down Syndrome initiative
- Support Down Syndrome Awareness Month initiatives locally
